Seriously VERY sharp!
The weight, feel, grip, and performance is second to none. Do your own reviews. I did for literally hours. After using the “name brands” that everyone can name off the tip of their tongue, I was extremely impressed with these, despite the cost. But do be careful, as these are completely on a different level of sharpness that you likely have not experienced before. And buy those cut gloves… And wear them. The merely laying of the knife onto your exposed skin with the blade and the weight of your hand will cut you if not wearing these gloves. Yep, no kidding!

The Sharpest Knives We Own
We had been using hand me down knives for years except for one, and that was a Mac Knife wedding gift a few decades ago. When my wife bought me a nice set of Wusthof knives I decided to buy her a Mac knife set. These knives are the sharpest knives that we have ever owned and are great for cutting most food stuff. They are our go to knife when we are cutting most fruits and vegetables. However, they have a thin blade and should not be used for dense hard to cut food.

Best Knives Ever – Recommended by Top Professional Chefs
These are made in Japan of strong but very think steel. Top chef of Alinea uses these knives and we got them to try and love them. We had Henckels knives before and the blades of these knives are much thinner, makes for very precise cutting and also slices easily without sticking. It’s a one piece blade, so balance is also great and very light. The rounded tip on the Chef knife also allows for faster chopping/dicing as you can rock the blade up to the tip. Great price for excellent knives.

Incredible knives
Wife had one mac knife from many years ago. I loved the continuous taper from thin to almost nothing without sacrificing rigidity and strength. Incredibly sharp blades and the rounded tips presenting much less hazard (how often do you need a point, anyway?). Super quality.

Loved them and they did a great job (did not …
Have used these knives for 4 years now. Loved them and they did a great job (did not discolor, comfortable grip, lightweight). Give them a three star rating because they began to lose their sharpness a few months ago and have required almost constant sharpening with a manual device for this purpose. Perhaps this is the normal outcome for a knife and will need to have them professionally sharpened again. Will evaluate the cost of doing this vs. buying a new set.

Great value and quality!
Arrived a day early! These knives are amazingly light and crazy sharp. My Mom has had this brand of knife for over 30 years and swears by them. I hope to have my set for at least as long!

Present for Husband
I was finally able to completely surprise my husband with this gift – he had no prior knowledge, no one spilled the beans. He loves them – they are sharp and fit his hands perfectly. They aren’t too heavy, but they also aren’t too light. I also got the Mac Ceramic knife sharpener, which was the cherry on top. I would definitely recommend this gift set for the chef that can’t spend a ton of money on knives, but still needs good quality.

Warning the warranty is not a lifetime warranty
This knife broke sitting in a drawer. It is out of warranty. It is easy to find knives with a lifetime warranty. Mac knives do not have a lifetime warranty.

MAC knives have helped me end my quest for a quality kitchen knife
If you don’t like to have to frequently sharpen your knives, then try out a Mac knife. They stay sharp for a really long time and cut like laser beams through food. They feel great in the hand, and they’re nice and light. The only disadvantage (and this is a minor one) is that they’re not dishwasher safe (but neither are most quality knives in this category).I started my quest for a quality kitchen knife about 3 years ago after I noticed that my Henckels Professional S knives were getting dull pretty frequently. My first Henckels was a Pro S 7 inch santoku that I was so pleased with at first that I decided to get a matching Pro S 5 inch santoku, a paring knife, and a very expensive 10 inch chef’s knife. And then they started getting dull. My first reaction was to get some whetstones and do some sharpening. I tried a few Japanese stones first and then moved on to some USA made diamond ones before finally settling happily with a Spyderco sharpening system. Long story short, I discovered that sharpening is a chore I’d rather not have to do at all, muchness frequently, so I decided to check into some other brands that I would not have to sharpen as much as my Henckels. Believe me, Henckels Pro S series get dull constantly. It’s incredibly frustrating how often you have to find yourself sharpening them. And this was after I spent countless hours researching and finding out everything I needed to know about using whetstones effectively. If you sharpen a Pro S, if you’re lucky, you might be able to get through 3 meal preps before noticing that it’s not as sharp as it used to be. And yes, I did wash them immediately after every use and store them properly, that that isn’t the issue. They are just simply junk knives at a premium price. As a result, I did a lot of research before deciding to buy a Cutco and a Mac. I know there’s a lot of Cutco haters out there who consider Cutco to be like the Bose of the knife world (overpriced for a mediocre product). I heard all the stuff about how they use inferior grade steel and this and that, but I decided to try them because they had a lifetime guarantee, free professional lifetime sharpening, and they were dishwasher safe. I decided to get a Mac because I found a few reviewers online by some people who worked in restaurant kitchens.I have been happy with the Cutco, but I’ve been even happier with the Mac knives I’ve bought. The Cutco vegetable knife has stayed nice and sharp for a year and a half now without any trouble. I love that I can just throw it in the dishwasher which is great when you’re entertaining company and don’t want to be bothered with washing your knives off by hand right after using them. But two things keep me from grabbing the Cutco most of the time when I’m cooking: it’s heavy and the steel blade is a somewhat fat so it does not glide as effortlessly through food as I’d prefer even though it has maintained such a sharp edge. From my experience, Cutco makes a pretty decent knife that they stand behind with a great warranty, so I would not consider them the Bose of kitchen knives; if anything Henckels, with their overpriced, overhyped, and overexposed product, is the Bose of kitchen knives.I digress. The Mac succeeds where the Cutco left off. Weary of wasting money, I decided to be conservative with trying out a Mac knife for the first time, so I went on google shopping and found Sonoma Cutlery, a retailer that sold single Mac knives at a very reasonable price–much less than a Henckels Pro S or Cutco, and I bought a single Mac Original 4 inch paring knife. The steel is nice and thin, so it’s not only light, but also glides effortlessly through food (you’ll see what I’m talking about if you try one out and compare it to a thicker steel blade when cutting something like a large onion). I fell in love with it, and decided after a year of use without needing to be sharpened to get a second Mac, so I got an Original series 6.5 inch chef’s knife. It’s my absolute favorite knife in my block. Mac does not get the exposure it deserves, and it seems that only a few people who are “in the know” (e.g. Gordon Ramsay) have discovered how great Macs are. It really is a shame that big retailers like Bed Bath and Beyond and places like that tend to push hyped, shoddy, overpriced German brands like Henckels when they could instead be selling better quality knives like Mac. I have since sold my used Henckels, and I’m keeping my Cutco and of course these awesome Mac knives. I’m sure that there are several other quality brands out there who make knives that are very good too, but my great experience with these very reasonably priced Macs has made me a loyalist, and my quest for the kitchen knife I’ve always wanted is finally over. If you’ve found yourself on a similar quest, save yourself a lot of time and grief and just buy yourself a single Original series Mac chef’s knife. You’ll be glad you did.

48 years and still my favorites
I bought the set pictured in 1971! Over those 48 years I have owned and used a LOT of high quality knives. THESE bad boys are STILL my favorites. That little guy is my go-to. And despite every day use all these years, i can still get an edge on them that will scare you. I was ecstatic to see these and purchased. I only hope I last as long as my new knives š

True quality
I received the two larger knives as a housewarming gift from my dad in 1967 and no idea how good they were. We are still using them and really have never found anything better. Stay nice and sharp, have never discolored or rusted (we do hand wash all knives), and well balanced. After 50 years of use there is no use looking at anything else. Great quality!P.S. The only reason I came to this site was to see if they were still making these gems….going to get a paring size

This is the best knife for me I still have my original purchased from NEX Hawaii. And they are thin and very sharp like a sword.I am looking for a set with bamboo holder. But I guess they still don’t make special holders for this brand.

best knives ever
I purchased a set of Mac knives, (the same ones pictured) about 45 years ago. I just today ran across them on Amazon.I’ve been in food service near 50 years and these are the best knives I have ever owned or used. I also purchased the ceramic sharpener about the same time. The knives and the sharpener ( I think it was called a zip zap) are still on my wall and are as good as the day I bought them. I love the light weight and thin blades. They have never needed sharpened, just a few runs over the zip zap and they are like razors If you ever need knives or want to give someone an impressive gift,a set of MAC knives are the best. Bye the way, 45 years ago, I paid $19.00 for the set. Good investment!

Why is there no lifetime warranty? Guess
Check warranty vs other comparable knife companies. 25 yrs is not a lifetime. They don’t make exceptions.

44 years/Still sharp and still using them daily
I just purchased as a wedding present the same 4 knife set that we bought shortly after we were married 44 years ago. This is a great set of knives. They are kept sharp by a few swipes along the back of a plate of china. However, I see they now sell a ceramic shapener that I assume will work just as well. If you want to give a wedding gift that people will thank you for many times over the years, I recommend this set of MAC knives. Each knife is simply perfect.

MAC lasts forever!
My father-in-law gave us this exact set of knives 35 years ago because he said we needed good knives, and MAC was the best he had ever used……….He was a butcher with his own shop in N.J. For 45 years. I use the knives daily, and they are indeed exceptional. I am now purchasing a set for my son. He can’t have mine!

Best Knives I’ve Ever Used
When we were preparing our wedding registry, I began to put another set of knives on my list, because a relative considers this other brand to be the best. But I realized that I only willingly use those supposedly top-tier knives when my grandmother’s old MAC knives aren’t available, so I pivoted. I believe my dad bought the original MAC knives for my grandmother when he was in high school (about 40 years ago) and at least three of them are still in use today in various households. They are good, sturdy workhorses that just keep going. They are consistent, reliable, and just an overall great knife. I’ve been very pleased with this new batch of MAC knives. I haven’t had 40 years to test them out, but so far, they’re sharp, they’re comfortable in my hand, and they wash up beautifully.

Most of them ok.
The smallest knife in the set we bought has rust spots on it. The others don’t and are fine. We have taken care of all the knives but it’s the smallest one that has rust spots on it.

OMG these are the best knives EVER
These knives are quite thin, the blades are VERY sharp. You can cut yourself by touching them so be careful. The true test is to cut a very soft tomato without mashing it. These knives cut through the tomato like soft butter, leaving perfect slices. They make cutting vegetables and meat a joy. These are the first knives I could easily sharpen by dragging them over the bottom of a ceramic cup a few times. They are truly the best knives I’ve ever had and are reasonably priced. They do require a bit more care, you must dry them immediately after use or they may rust, you need to either store them hanging up (they have holes in the tips to make this easy), or keep them in the box they came in. The knives are more fragile than the normal stainless steel knives (which is why they’re so sharp). Don’t try to cut through frozen items) but with the little extra care, these knives will last for years and stay sharp. WELL WORTH THE EXTRA CARE!!!!

Favorite knife for last 30 years
A friend gifted me one Mac knife for Christmas over 30 years ago. I put it in the knife block and found myself choosing it over all the other knives every time. Truly, I just wanted to throw out my other knives. Whether Iām cutting up veggies or slicing a loaf of bread, I still choose that one knife.I finally decided to treat myself to a knife set.I love them. They slice everything ālike butterā.I wish I had a matching knife block as my old block does not have the same size holes.I will warn you that they are very sharp and I have cut myself several times, but I never struggle to cut anything. I even cut up a watermelon yesterday without enlisting a strong maleās help. It was impressive.

Reliable Knives.
I have a set of Mac knives that were handed down to me from my in-laws. I am very particular about knives keeping a sharp edge, and Mac knives do. I am now buying sets as wedding shower gifts for my grandchildren.

Every house should have these
I used to be a cook at a health food restaurant and they had these. I LOVE these, and Made in Japan! This kit sharpens so wellāit is amazing. I would order the suggested sharpener that Amazon suggestsāI thin MAC makes it. I was a chef for three years and we sharpened our MAC knife’s on the back of a “China” porcelain plate. This kit is amazing! The small knife is my favorite. The fillet knife is my favorite. The extra-large one is a bonus for free. These knives will last a lifetimeāliterally. The sharpening is easy, effective, and effortless by the way…tom la france

Razor Sharp Knives!
After having read several reviews about MAC knives, I decided to purchase this set. Thusfar, they have been a pleasure to work with in that they well balanced and extremely sharp. I highly recommend them and will post an update after I have had an opportunity to use them more. Now, as to why I only gave them a Four Star rating. The vendor, House of Rice was slow in shipping them (not a big deal really) BUT the paring knife in the set looked like a second. It has a scuff near the handle and a nick in the blade. I don’t believe MAC’s quality control would allow this to be sold retail and if they are going to sell seconds they should indicate that and price the product accordingly.

The Best
I got my last set of MACS over 30 years ago and … get this … never ever ever sharpened them. I had other knives over the year that I got as gifts but soon they’d dull out and sink to the bottom of the knife drawer. Right on top would be those MACS again. I admit to taking terrible care of them … washing in dishwasher, leaving them in wiped in the sink … but man they are just excellent knives. My kids are already in line for them and promise never to take a sharpener to them. Not sure that is what I would advise but they are just so happy doing their knife thing.Awesome product.

Mac Knife Set
Excellent set of knives given to my daughter, for her birthday. The set covers all her needs and are everything she hoped when she sent me the link to them. She works with Chefs that advised her Mac knives were a great investment if she is going to be serious about pursuing the culinary arts. She likes the light weight and ease of cutting with this set. She will use a knife bag for transporting them, and the rounded tips make that practical.
